These trucks haul coal from the pit to the tipple, where it is loaded into trains. Each tire costs over $2000, and may last only a few days. Engine exhaust is fed through the ribs on the truck bed to keep the coal from freezing to the bed in winter. Each tire is driven by its own electric motor.
